Gloria Bachmann, MD, MMS

Gloria Bachmann

Dr. Bachmann is a nationally and internationally recognized physician who has moved health care to the next level in many areas. At Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), New Brunswick (the major teaching hospital of RWJMS), she is a Professor of Ob/Gyn & Medicine, the Associate Dean for Women’s Health, the Co-director of the Women’s Health Institute, and the Medical Director of the PROUD Gender Center of NJ. Also at Rutgers University, she is a member of the Rutgers Institute for Corporate Social Innovation (RICSI) Advisory Committee and the Global Health Office.

Most recently, for her work in promoting optimal health care, she was selected for membership in the New York Academy of Medicine. For her work in global health, she also was recently acknowledged by two organizations: in 2023 she was awarded the Global Women’s Health Award by the Jersey Women Physician Alliance and in 2024 she was awarded the RWJMS Global Health Leadership Award. She is active in the non-profit, NJ Reentry Commission (NJRC), that serves previously incarcerated individuals. For this medical leadership, she was recognized in 2024 by the NJRC for her service and contributions. She is very committed to the United Nation’s (UN) initiatives, as noted by her invitation to attend the 2024 UN Status of Women meeting. She also was invited to attend the UN Summit of the Future, which will take place in September 2024. She is now serving on the UN NGO Social Justice Consortium. 

In the area of women’s health, she has a long history of being the principal and co-principal investigator on several clinical trials, including federally funded NIH protocols. Data derived from her participation in multiple research trials has added extensively to the literature and to many advances in health care. Dr. Bachmann is a graduate of Rutgers University and the Perlman School of Medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania. She also completed her Ob/Gyn residency training at the University of Pennsylvania.
